    Papadosio and the Rootwire

    ning

    What up everybody.

I’m kickin it in Athens, Ohio right now at the house of one of my favorite new bands of the past couple years – Papadosio.  It’s an exciting and crazy time around here with a lot of changes, but the guys have just released their second album Observations which i think the shredsomething crowd will appreciate.

The band held a release party at the Newport Music Hall on friday night with another Ohio band called The Werks.  This was Dosio’s first time headlining the Newport and before the show I recall hearing the guys saying that 400-600 in attendance was about what they were expecting.  All in all that night 800 showed up for what was one of the most spectacular and heartfelt display of music by such young musicians.

The Werks is going to be the perfect afterparty to next years Panic/Phish run – keeping it so close to home yet diving into the depths of space whenever need be.  The guitarist/vocalist – the big man in the front is named Hauser and isn’t afraid of belting out tracks such as “Psycho Killer” if the situation calls for it.

Similarly, Dosio is like the Railroad Earth of psychedelic/dance/electronic/progressive.  Anthony Thogmartin – guitar/vocals/programming – is one of the more thoughtful and talented songwriters – reminding me of Todd Sheaffer’s poetics, but with an entirely different set of sonics to back it.  If you take a listen, the lyrics to the track “All I Knew” will catch your ear.

All in all, I’m super excited for these guys.  They work, love, and play hard.  Like the mindblowing foliage here, they take a lot from a little and create some of the richest audible colors and textures on the scene right now.

Where I come in is a little unclear – but I decided to build them a Ning known as the Rootwire.  It’s getting pretty good, member list is only going to keep growing.  I know a lot of people out there appreciate shredsomething, but don’t want to get involved in Facebook.  If you’re into small community of talented individuals and minds, come check this shit out.

Similarly, I set up this Bandcamp for the dudes so we can get this new album as far as the mycelial 2.0 will reach :0 Hiyooooo!!!!!

$42k off Tesla Electric in Colorado

    From Treehugger:

Now *That* Is a Tax Break
The state of Colorado is trying to encourage the adoption of “alternative fuel vehicles” by offering tax credits based on the difference in cost between the said vehicle and a comparable non-green version. This means you could get about $3k in tax credit on a 2010 Toyota Prius or 2010 Honda Insight, or even $3.8k on a Honda Civic GX that runs on compressed natural gas. But the real eye-popper is the rebate on the all-electric Tesla Roadster: $ 42,083. That’s about 38% of the car’s $109k sticker price!

How is the Tax Credit Calculated?
Colorado has been giving tax credits for alt-fuel vehicles for years, with the bigger ones going to “zero emissions vehicles” (at the tailpipe, anyway).

What they do is they calculate the difference in cost between the ZEV and “a comparable liquid-fuel automobile”, in this case the gas-powered Lotus, and the tax credit is 85% of that price difference (I know some of you were hoping it was a fixed amount — that would have been the deal of the century on the Model S, no?).

Since the Tesla is so much more expensive than the Lotus, this ends up being quite a lot of money ($42k).

Good timing for the brand new Tesla Motors store in Boulder… But if you’re interested, hurry up because the special tax credit is due to end on December 31st.

For more details on which vehicles are eligible and how the tax credit works, see this document from Colorado’s government.

    Popping yet another dose

Greetings er’ebody….Lots been happening out here on the West Coast, so much one could say they can’t help but notice.  I’ve got a couple things to shred.

First, I’ve created a new website to go in conjunction with my friends over at Papadosio’s new album coming out in 2 weeks called Observations.  My relationship with these guys has been nothing less than stellar, as they were the defining factor of the first event I ever organized: Earth Night.

Since then, we’ve been playing with a lot of ideas to connect people better, offer more sonic as well as Gaian downloads, and get the internet at the forefront of the magreenery revolution and I’ve come up with Rootwire.Ning.Com which is a Ning-based network, a Sonic Bloom of social Networks as opposed to the bonarroo like Facebook shred.  I wanna invite everyone to join and add all the shit they would ever want and use it as much as possible.  I think for smaller-scale bands this is going to be fun as well and it will be directly linked from Papadosio’s site as a replacement to their current forum.

If anyone still needs a dose, I uploaded their debut album Magreenery here:

Interestingly, Dosio will be making their way to Colorado and I hope we can gather some gnarly support for these guys…Here are the current dates with an impending Hodi’s and Yeti’s.

Lastly….for a preview of the sound that won’t be missed on the new CD, I made this little vid a couple weeks back kickin it in Phil’s Arcata palace :)   Enjoy.

The song is called “All I Knew” and can be downloaded at the Live Music Archive here>
